This website is undergoing maintenance, and some pages may not be working fully.
Thank you for your patience!
I first thought about creating this site towards the end of 2008. Having traced the Milner branch of my own family back to Bridgnorth via the censuses, I had ground to a halt. Even the IGI was not much help in pinning it down due to the huge numbers of Milners born in or around Bridgnorth. With the help of the Archives (and archivists!) at Lichfield and Shrewsbury, I managed to take my tree back a further two centuries, using lists which I was sure would be useful for anyone with ancestors in the area.
And I wondered, "Why isn't this information available online?"
The obvious answer was, "Because nobody has done it yet!"
So, here it is. The (ongoing) results of my transcription project on the various historical lists of Bridgnorth. I've gone a bit cross-eyed in the process, but I hope you will find this information just as helpful as I did.
Happy Hunting!
You can scroll down to find out some basic information on how this website works.
Before you can search the records, you will need to register so that you can log in to the website. Registration is free, and you will have the option of receiving email updates whenever there is a new list to search.
To register, click on the "My Account" link at the top of the page, where you will find a "Register" option. Here you can get a username and a password. You can also find the 'Terms and Conditions' page .
During the registration process you will be asked for your name and email address so that you can be contacted if there is ever a problem with your account, and you will have to activate your account via a confirmation code which will be sent to you by email.
Once you have registered, you will be able to use your new password to log in using the form on the top left of most pages. You can update your details, email address and password, or cancel your registration, whenever you like.
You′ll find specific information on each of the lists via the brown menu on the left-hand side of most pages.
As well as information on individual lists, the same menu also has a link to a Reference page, which has general information on things like occupations, abbreviations, dates and calendars.
If you would like to see an overview of the lists, including the number of records in each one and their current states of transcription, you can click on the "Lists" link at the head of the page.
You can make preliminary searches of the lists by clicking on the "Search" link at the head of the page, and then selecting the list you wish to search. Preliminary searches are free. They are designed to give you an idea of whether the information on Bridgnorth Lists will be useful to you.
If you wish to have access to the full transcriptions at Bridgnorth Lists, you can take out a subscription. This website uses PayPal, although a postal option is available. Subscriptions work via a credit system, and information on how this works and the available options can be found by clicking on the "Buy Credits" button on the "My Account" page.
More detailed tips and information on the search process can be reached via a link at the top of the "Search" page.
If you need to contact me, you can click on the "Contact" link at the head of the page, where you will find email and postal addresses.
Feedback is a vital part of keeping this website working, so if you have a query, comment or suggestion, or a correction to one of the records, or if you've noticed a technical glitch, please get in touch and let me know!
I am also interested in hearing about any new insights and information related to the lists or the people in them. Hopefully I will be able to include some of these on the website at a later date.
